Tom Murphy reports from Anfield Sports…

The Mariners were defeated by three goals to nil away from home at the hands of Lower Breck.

Left back Daniel Lowey scored the first for the home side before a brace from number 10 Sam Burns in the second half.

Neil Young fielded a side with plenty of changes that included starts for academy boys Liam Paton, Toby Jones and Palfrey.

The game started evenly but it wasn’t long before the home side began to get on the front foot and create chances.

Croughan fired wide of the target after 15 minutes after the ball was played through brilliantly to the forward.

The hosts netted shortly after thanks to Lowey who had made his way forward from his left back position.

A lovely directed effort into the bottom corner beat Richard Cowderoy in the Marine net to put Breck in front after 20 minutes.

Marine offered little going forward, their best chance of the half fell to Regan Griffiths who was only able to find the fence behind the goal after a strike from distance.

After the restart the home side instantly doubled their lead when Burns capitalised on a series of errors at the back from a Marine point of view.

The game was then forced into a pause when the floodlights around the ground went off.

There was an intense wait for play to resume but eventually the lights came back on and Breck continued to create chances with the momentum behind them.

Chance after chance fell to the home side as Marine struggled to play the ball out of their own half during large spells of the second half.

Marine’s only chance fell to Bradley Holmes whose shot was well wide of the target, a late run from Paton couldn’t get on the end of the wayward strike.

Lower Breck sealed Marine’s fate after 88 minutes when Burns found the back of the net from distance to add salt to the wounds.

After a disappointing evening, The Mariners now look to the league clash on Tuesday night against Alfreton Town as they look to make it four league games unbeaten.

Marine starting XI: Cowderoy, Thomas, Waters, Griffiths, Scott Butler, Jones, Robinson, Paton, Charley Doyle, Holmes, Palfrey.

Attendance: 221.
