Tom Murphy reports from Mount Pleasant…
Goals from Louis White and Finlay Sinclair Smith were enough to drag Marine over the line up in the North East.
The Mariners had to come from behind to earn all three points and their 4th successive win in the Northern Premier League.
It was a difficult start to the encounter and in fact it was never easy for Neil Young’s team but to their relief, White and Sinclair Smith scored two superb goals to head back to Merseyside with a win in the bag.
In a first half where Marine had few chances to impose their style of play, Sinclair Smith came closest as he saw his effort cannon off the left post.
The 23 year old also saw his free kick saved by Harker, who was impressive in nets for the home side this afternoon.
From minute one Marske looked to frustrate the away side, Church looked a threat upfront and it was his goal in the 51st minute that gave the Mariners a wake up call.
Shortly after the goal, Young made a double change. Charley Doyle came on to replace Manasse Mampala and Darius Osei for Will Russ.
Both subs changed the game entirely, Marine now looked more of a threat in the final third and Marske were on the ropes for the remainder of the encounter.
Chance after chance came and went for Marine until eventually Louis White, who earned a well deserved man of the match award, found the bottom right corner after Camron Gbadebo failed to clear a Sol Solomon cross.
The goal regenerated the away side and shortly after Fin Sinclair Smith pulled off an unbelievable finish to smash home Marine’s second and winning goal.
In the end, despite an under par performance it could have been three or four after chances from White and Solomon were well dealt with by Marske’s defence.
Marine will now return to the Marine Travel Arena where they will face off against top of the league, Radcliffe in what is set to be a very exciting encounter.
