Marine FC can confirm that defender James Butler has signed from Warrington Rylands on a one-year contract with an option for a second year.
The centre-back joins for an undisclosed fee following a strong year with Rylands in the Northern Premier League.
The 24-year-old joined Rylands from Mickleover Sports last year after coming through the youth ranks at Stoke City.
He is the son of former professional Tony Butler who made over 600 appearances in the Football League.
On signing for Marine, James said: “I’m absolutely buzzing to sign for the club. After playing against Marine last season, I know what a great club it is, with an unbelievable fan base so when I heard the club was interested it was a no brainer.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the gaffer and the lads, and I think we can have a great season.
“The National League North is a really tough league but I think we’ll more than compete, and I just can’t wait to get started and get playing in front of the fans.”
Manager Neil Young said: “I’m very happy to finally be able to bring James to the club.
“He has been, along with Scott Butler, one of our main defensive targets since the season finished and I’m glad we have finally been able to get it over the line.
“His desire to come to the football club was also clear from the minute we spoke with him.
“He really impressed throughout last season in a Rylands defence that was one of the best in the league. I thought he was excellent in all of the games against ourselves and at 24 I believe he is a fantastic signing for the football club and look forward to working with James.”
