Kallan Murphy joins Marine

Marine FC are delighted to confirm the signing of striker Kallan Murphy for the 2024/25 season following his departure from Guiseley AFC.

The Irishman, who turns 21 today, previously played for Chesterfield after making the move to England, winning their under-19 Player of the Season award during his time in their youth ranks.

Murphy notched eight goals for Guiseley last season as they finished 10th in the NPL.

Manager Neil Young said: “We have been keeping an eye on Kallan from when he first played against us. He is young, robust and certainly knows where the goal is.

“It’s not very often that you see a young forward player who wants to put himself about like Kallan does.

“We have proven in my time here that we give the right young players opportunities irrespective of age and that will continue to be the way we work. Kallan again is someone is keen to come in and do well.”

What are your first thoughts on signing for Marine?

KM: I can’t wait to get going. Marine are a huge club who were exceptional last season. This year the competition will only get tougher but as a club we are more than capable of competing.

What did you know about Marine before you signed?

KM: Marine has a huge history and in more recent years they’ve had a lot of success through their cup run. You only have to look around the ground now compared to what it is was to see how the club is moving forward.

What were the main reasons behind your decision to join Marine?

KM: After speaking with the gaffer it made it pretty easy for me to make my decision. The club play a great brand of football and I feel like I will fit perfectly into that. The fans play a huge part – they have grown in recent years and it’s no cliche that they help when playing week in week out.

What has the manager told you about the club which made you want to sign?

KM: The club has fantastic ambitions. As a player, you want to play somewhere with ambition and are always looking to strive for more. Football can be a short career and it’s important to make the most of it.

How would you describe yourself as a player to Marine fans?

KM: The fans may remember me over the last few years. I’m a no-nonsense striker who’s probably slightly different to the modern day striker. I enjoy the physical battle and bring others into play. I pride myself on working hard from the front line.

What are your aims for this season?

KM: My aims are to contribute to as many goals as possible throughout the season. From a personal point, I want to score as many as I can, as that’s my job in the team, however it’s important the club can first and we are as successful as possible.

How much are you looking forward to getting started?

KM: The break is always a killer. I’m glad that pre-season is nearly here. People don’t realise how much you miss it until the end of the season comes about. This year will look a bit different for me. A new club with a new challenge and new clubs to come up against. I can’t wait to get stuck in.
