Adam Yates reports from the MTA…
Marine were unable to add to their points tally as they were ultimately defeated by Scarborough Athletic. The 13th matchday of the season leaves the Mariners in an early relegation battle with only four league goals scored.
Both teams have had a mixed start to the season with the Seadogs winless since the 21st September. Marine were looking to extend a mini game unbeaten run at home having only playing in Crosby four times in two months.
The first half was predominantly a quiet affair with only half chances for either side with Scarborough having the majority of possession and opportunity.
Marine keeper Matty Corran was kept busy early on with a couple of scuffed shots and crosses and Athletic winger Kieran Glynn was rightly booked for a dive in the box.
The game was paused near the break for over ten minutes due to a medical incident in near 1,400 crowd and the remainder of the injury time added was eventually played to its conclusion.
The deadlock was finally broken in the 69th minute by one of the league’s most lethal strikers. Dom Tear had no hesitation finishing from a delicious cross via the left channel.
After the goal, Marine threw caution to the wind clearing their substitute bench looking for an equaliser. Returning from injury, Chris Doyle was thrown up front as a target man for knock downs and it did result in better opportunities. Finlay Sinclair-Smith in particular will be kicking himself with a chance near the end to open his account for the season.
Next Up – Marine have just over a week before hosting current league Leaders Chorley and we will also discover our opponents in the upcoming FA Trophy with the draw set to take place this coming week.
