Marine 1-2 Runcorn; Liverpool Senior Cup Quarter Final; Tuesday 3rd March 2026
Tom Murphy reports from the MTA…
A youthful Marine side were beaten at the MTA thanks to a quick fire Runcorn double in the first half.
The first good chance of the game fell to Runcorn’s Jamie Apperley who forced a good save from Jack McIntyre.
A wonder strike from Charlie Jolley from the edge of the area meant the hosts took the lead in the 22nd minute.
Runcorn’s response was a positive one as they almost equalised shortly later only to be denied by a stop on the line from Lewis Bell.
The visitors eventually equalised in the 35th minute thanks to a headed finish from close range.
Connor Spiers then added a second three minutes later after he fired a shot low past McIntyre.
Marine pushed hard for the equaliser in the second half.
In the 57th minute George Newell found himself with time to shoot inside the area but his effort was wide of the right post.
Substitute Williams unleashed an effort from close range only to see the ball smothered by Ebbrell in the Runcorn net.
With their defence holding firm, the visitors almost added a third but Tom Ruffer’s shot was firmly blocked on the line by Jed Abbey.
The visitors continued to frustrate Bobby Grant’s side who were unable to find a goal to level the game, meaning Runcorn progressed into the semi final of the Liverpool Senior Cup.
