BUXTON 4-0 MARINE

Buxton 4-0 Marine; Enterprise NLN; Saturday 17th January 2026

Max Ledson reports from Silverlands…

Marine FC suffered a disappointing 4–0 defeat on the road against Buxton FC, with the hosts turning a tight first half into a dominant second half performance.

The Mariners held their own in the opening 45 minutes, matching Buxton in a closely fought contest. Chances were limited at both ends, and the teams went into the break level at 0–0, with Marine looking well organised.

However, Buxton emerged from the interval the better of the two sides and quickly took control. Their pressure paid off just three minutes into the second half when Zac Gilsenan placed an effort from the edge of the box into the corner to give the hosts the lead.

Marine struggled to respond as Buxton maintained their dominance throughout the second period. Despite their efforts, the Mariners found it difficult to break through the Buxton back line.

The home side doubled their advantage in the 83rd minute through substitute Cian Coleman, whose strike from the edge of the area slipped underneath goalkeeper Fraser Barnsley, who was unable to keep it out.

Buxton added a third just three minutes later following a goalmouth scramble, with Tai Sodje reacting quickest to turn the ball home from close range.

With Marine visibly deflated, Buxton rounded off the scoring in stoppage time when Tate Campbell finished neatly into the bottom corner to seal a 4–0 victory.
