Adam Yates reports from the MTA…
Marine continued their winning form as they produced a 5th consecutive victory in league and cup competitions beating Warrington Town 2-0 in front of a bumper crowd of nearly 1600.
The visitors had the better of initial possession in the opening period but golden opportunities were lacking as they were limited to long range efforts from the likes of Reece Daly and Lewis Earl.
Declan Drysdale found the net in the 24th minute as Marine’s left back Jack Doyle’s corner went undefended as Drysdale headed in at the far post from close range. Yellows keeper Mateusz Hewelt got a hand to it but it was not enough.
Former Mariner Jack Goodwin was a handful for Warrington on the left flank but again, the shots on target were not solid enough to trouble Marine goalkeeper Jack McIntyre.
Marine turned up the heat in the second half looking to put the game to bed and on the 55th minute they got what they deserved. Drysdale’s defensive partner and captain Josh Wardle got on the score sheet with a clever header that rose over Hewelt and into the middle of goal for breathing space for Bobby Grant’s men.
Half chances from the likes of Charlie Jolley for the Mariners and yellows substitute Harry McHugh resulted in nothing but goal kicks and a late on Reece Daly in swinger corner narrowly missed floating into the net as Marine progressed comfortably into the final qualifying round.
