NEIL YOUNG – END OF AN ERA

Enterprise National League North Marine AFC are saddened to announce that Director of Football Neil Young is to leave the club at the end of June.

Neil managed the Mariners for seven seasons, transforming the fortunes of the club and leading us into the National League North for the first time in our history.

He was appointed the club’s inaugural Director of Football after the end of the 2024/25 season and played a key role in Marine securing a third season at Step 2.

Neil said:

“To everyone at Marine FC, and especially the fans:

After careful consideration, I’ve decided to step down from my role at the club.

Marine Football Club has been a huge part of my life for the last eight years, and it’s been a privilege to be a part of what we’ve achieved together.

As a team, we have regularly punched above our weight and overcome the odds, which has lead us to win so many big matches, and achieve so much success in that time.

From our well publicised FA Cup runs, two promotions, and winning the Liverpool Senior Cup back‑to‑back, there have been some fantastic moments that I’ll always look back on with pride.

Then, to be able to support Bobby and his management team whilst they started their managerial journey at the club (and with a very good league campaign), who could ever forget our incredible run to the FA Trophy Semi Final, even with a horrendous injury list.

Above all else, football is about people, and to me, the supporters are at the heart of Marine Football Club. Some of my most cherished memories at the club will not only be the results or achievements, but the moments that I have shared with you all. Seeing families and friends come together to create lifelong memories through their shared love of the club has been a privilege to witness, and something that I will cherish.

Your support, not only at home, but also away (and generally anywhere we have bumped into each other), has played such a big part in these achievements. The backing and respect that you have given me throughout my time here, are qualities that I will never forget.

Thank you to everyone on the Board, who have trusted me implicitly with your club, and to all of the players and staff, both past and present, I can never thank you enough.

Best wishes to Bobby, Paul, Chris, Sean, Niamh and Alex, who are a great team of people that I know will be doing everything they can to keep pushing the club forward.

I’m very grateful for my time at the club, and for the role I’ve been able to play from where we were when I arrived in 2018.

Now I’m looking forward to what comes ahead, and my next possible football chapter.

Thanks for everything,

Neil”

We thank Neil for his fantastic contribution over the last eight years and wish him every success in the future.
