Marine held by Guiseley in FA Cup encounter
Match Report by Tom Murphy
Despite having more chances at Nethermoor Park, Marine are forced to play again on Tuesday night against a resilient Guiseley side.
In a very scrappy encounter, The Mariners were the side who were left more frustrated at the full time whistle.
After a dull first five minutes Marine began to grow into the game with a flurry of chances within a couple of minutes of each other.
The first of these resulted in a brilliant save by Guiseley goalkeeper, Ollie Battersby after Sol Solomon got on the end of a Jake Burton cross.
Minutes later Sinclair Smith was able to find Burton deep inside the Guiseley’s 18 yard box, but again the ball ended up in the safe hands of Battersby.
Guiseley had a rather quiet half with few chances, Callum Murphy came closest for the home side but he was unable to convert his effort on target.
A strong Josh Wardle had a commanding performance at the back for the Mariners to help eliminate any threat from the Guiseley attacks
As the clock ticked by, frustration began to grow for the visitors, Woodthorpe, Solomon and substitute Mampala, all picked up yellow cards in the second half.
Nevertheless, at Nethermoor Park, Marine’s chances continued to flood in with Solomon and White coming closest in the second period.
Kyle Hayde was a standout for Marine who put out a great defensive shift as well as making enthusiastic attempts to get his side forward down the right side.
The away side heaped on pressure until the final whistle but were left discontented after being unable to convert their chances into goals.
Both sides will face off once more at The MTA this Tuesday with it all to play for.
