Match report by Tom Murphy…

Marine fought their way into the FA Cup Fourth Qualifying round after a well earned 2-0 victory away to Hyde.

Two thunderbolts from Manasse Mampala and Fin Sinclair Smith were enough to sink 10 man United.

After a sluggish start, the Mariners were the side who posed a bigger threat in the first half. Jordan Lussey was unable to find the target after his shot was charged down by the Tigers’ resilient back line.

An unbelievable 35 yard strike from Manasse Mampala in the 35th minute put the away side ahead and the game then came alight.

The 23 year old was able to control the ball, turn and unleash a spectacular strike that lofted into the top left corner.

The goalscorer almost made it two but this time his effort was strongly palmed away  by Sam Waller.

The action continued late into the first half as Hyde Utd skipper, Bradley Roscoe, was dismissed after a second bookable offence in additional time.

Straight out of the blocks, just two minutes into the second half, Sinclair Smith doubled his side’s lead after a brilliant shot from the edge of the penalty area. Marine certainly had the upper hand early in the second period.

Surprisingly, despite Marine’s momentous charge, Hyde responded the better of the two sides as they put Goddard under a spell of pressure.

The 19 year old did brilliantly to tip over an effort from Ryan White in the 52nd minute.

A standout for Neil Young’s side was their very own captain, Josh Wardle who put in an excellent shift.  With one of his feet badly bruised, the number six didn’t put a foot wrong in helping his team leave with a clean sheet.

This win means the Merseysiders are now 10 unbeaten in all competitions, a streak in which they have beaten upper league opposition and one of the favourites in their division.

With no replay on Tuesday night, Marine have a week to prepare for the FA Trophy fixture in Marske where they recently won 2-1 in the League.
