MARINE 0-0 LEAMINGTON

Adam Yates reports from the Marine Travel Arena…

Marine and Leamington were unable to escape a lacklustre no score draw but a controversial second half disallowed goal left the Mariners wanting.

The first half was a scrappy affair with minimal chances and countless throw ins the dish of the day.

Leamington’s best chance fell to Dan Meredith with a superb long ranger but it fell straight at Marine’s Luke Hutchinson who tipped it over.

For the hosts, the chance of the half fell to Regan Griffiths who controlled well outside the box and ran inside for a shot on target which was parried clear.

Despite the low XG, defenders were kept busy with Scott Butler a notable standout clearing everything in his path followed by home crowd cheers.

Marine flew out of the traps as the second half began and the near 1200 in attendance felt it paid off as Chris Doyle threw himself at a corner to force the ball in the net but referee Declan Brown was alerted to a foul and dismissed the opener to dismay from crowd and players alike.

As the game continued, quality in the final third was not to be seen and killer edge lacking. Leamington began to run the clock down wherever possible.

Neil Young was later shown a yellow card as his frustration was clear for all to see as decisions went against his side. After the final whistle, Young summed up the game perfectly… “It wasn’t a classic.”

The point was the finale of the Mariners first ever month in the National League North and it leaves them with 5 points from six games.

September begins in earnest with a trip to Rushall this Tuesday evening followed by a big home game against Darlington, set to be streamed on the National League platform worldwide.
