MARINE 1-4 BUXTON

Tom Murphy reports from the MTA…

Marine suffered a 4-1 defeat at home to a Buxton team who showed no mercy to the hosts.

Goals from Tommy Elliott, Luke Brennan and a Johnny Johnston brace ensured all three points returned to Derbyshire.

After piling on some minor pressure throughout the first half, Marine opened the scoring thanks to Enock Lusiama.

Finlay Sinclair Smith  sent a low powerful ball into the feet of Lusiama who made no mistake in placing the ball into the net.

Minutes later,  against the run of play Buxton equalised thanks to a super strike from Elliott.

The ball fell kindly to the feet of the number 10 whose shot fell over the line after rattling the cross bar.

The away side then showed why they had scored double the goals of Neil Young’s side.

Brennan punished The Mariners after a low cross from Dermi Lusala somehow found its way to the back post.

The winger was able to casually skip away from his defenders and smash home a second.

Six minutes later the away side extended their lead after a clinical counter attack was  finished off by Johnston.

It got worse for Young’s side when Johnston netted his second and his team’s fourth of the afternoon in the 73rd minute after another fast breakaway.

Marine sink to the bottom of the National League North whilst Buxton moved two points adrift of Darlington in the NLN table.
