Marine made it back to back league wins as they came out deserved 2-0 winners against a toothless Radcliffe.. A brace from forward George Newell ensured that the 1200+ Crosby crowd headed home happy.
Kick off had barely begun when the Mariners found themselves ahead when Jack McIntyre placed a forward pass into the path of George Newell who needed only two impressive touches to place the ball past Boro keeper Tom Donaghy after about 23 seconds of play.
Radcliffe had plenty of possession in the game but with extremely little to show for it with Marine shot stopper Jack McIntyre limited only to punch outs and easy collections.
George Kattah did all the hard work to nearly double Marine’s lead in the first half as he went one on one with Donaghy with a decision to lob or position a low shot, Kattah opted for the latter and Donaghy saved well to his left.
The second half was a somewhat messier affair with quality lacking but Bobby Grant’s Mariners found a way for their second in the 65th minute. A powerful header from captain Josh Wardle (formerly of Radcliffe) was parried but only into the direction of Newell who found his second of the day with a pinpoint header.
After three games with zero points and no goals, the Mariners suddenly find themselves mid table after back to back wins, 6 goals and plenty of newly found confidence in front of the net who face Harborough on Bank Holiday Monday.
