MARINE 2-4 MACCLESFIELD

Marine 2-4 Macclesfield; Enterprise NLN; Tuesday 10th March 2026

Tom Murphy reports from the MTA…

A frustrating night ended in defeat for Marine as Macclesfield put four past them.

It was a fast start at the MTA with both sides having chances in the opening minutes.

Marine struck first in the 15th minute thanks to Charlie Jolley’s eighth goal in the league this season.

After starting the move himself, the forward finished coolly after finding himself in space at the back post.

A perfect response from Macclesfield saw them draw level just four minutes later.

James Edmondson’s corner landed perfectly on the head of the Silkmen’s skipper who was able to nod home the equaliser.

Chances continued to flood in for Macclesfield who looked to pull ahead for the first time in the game.

Fraser Barnsley was called into action on a handful occasions and was able to keep the score level after some good saves.

A number of stoppages, which resulted in nine added minutes being added on at the end of the half meant that the game lost its momentum.

Much like the first half it was Macclesfield who dominated possession and they soon found a second goal just before the hour mark.

A clinical counter attack ended with Josh Kay placing the ball into the back of the net to give his side the lead for the first time in the game.

Things went from bad to worse for The Mariners after Adam Anson was dismissed for a second bookable offence.

The Silkmen then added a third in the 77th minute after Elliott Osbourne found the net with help from a deflection.

Substitute James Potter gave his side a glimmer of hope after he found the net after a shot from the edge of the area shortly after being introduced.

There was to be no late comeback and Macclesfield added salt to the wounds when James Gale placed the ball into an empty net after a mixup at the back.
