Huge game for Marine in big early test of league campaign

Kevin Phillips was appointed manager of South Shields in January 2022.

He made his name as a player with Watford, Sunderland, Aston Villa, West Bromwich Albion, and Crystal Palace, and was a full England international. His appointment at South Shields is his first as a manager.

Newly appointed SIA trained stewards will also be in attendance to assist on the day and fans are urged to arrive early to avoid congestion. Additional catering and toilet facilities has been arranged within the stadium to accommodate the likely increased attendance for the game.

Marine Chairman Paul Leary said:

“We are encouraged by the results and performances in our first two league games in the NPL Premier Division, having defeated Guiseley 3-0 away on Saturday and drawing 0-0 at home in a tough encounter against Lancaster City. This though will be a real test against full-time South Shields managed by football legend Kevin Phillips. I look forward to another large attendance at Marine on Saturday in what will be an amazing atmosphere at the MTA.”

Paul Leary added:

“I look forward to welcoming the players, staff, officials, and supporters of South Shields to the Marine Travel Arena for our first home Saturday game of the new season.”
