On Friday 5th April, Marine will host the area’s first-ever half or full, choice of Marathon event raising much-needed funds for local charities like Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and our new Community Hub.
Runners taking part will be able to take penalties as the event takes place over a lapped circuit, which if running the full Marathon allows runners to take four penalties on the Marine pitch against a professional standard goalkeeper.
Runners running the half marathon will be allowed 2 penalties after each circuit, making the penalty competition an even chance for all entrants.
What’s more is the goalkeeper they will have to beat is Joe Marsh famous on TikTok as ‘The Scouse Goalkeeper’!
Full marathon runners will take on a 26.2+ mile, 4 lap, non competitive laps (2 laps for half marathon) on gently undulating paths and pavements, with some coastal running.
Full marathon runners will start at 9am and half marathon runners at 9.30am.
James Leary, Marine FC CEO, will run in the half marathon. James said, “We are always involved in local community projects and supporting charities. It’s great to help once again albeit running the half marathon will be a new experience for me at the Club.”
Paul Sutherland, Formby resident completes his 400th marathon along with Karl Randall from Tamworth who completes his 600th marathon.
Paul said, “Runners have come from all over the country and it’s great to show off Crosby and our amazing coastline. I am so pleased my marathon journey to 400 is to finish back home in my own backyard.”
Amy Barnes from Sefton Council has watched the event develop. She added, “Hopefully this event helps a diverse section of the community to get involved with activities that can help with their wellbeing.”
Local supporters are encouraged to come and support this event with your local area warmth and cheer the runners along the route, with the 1894 Bar and Bistro open for supporters to eat and drink throughout the day.
