Tom Murphy reports from the Attis Arena…
Scunthorpe United put three past Marine in what was Neil Young side’s first away trip of the season.
Goals from Andrew Boyce, Daniel Whitehall and Sam Fishburn saw the home side ease past a wasteful Marine.
The home team came close in the first half on a couple of occasions but were unable to find the target.
Two low and threatening crosses sizzled into the box but were both unable to find the foot of a Scunthorpe player.
In a half with minimal chances, it was Scunthorpe who eventually took the lead.
Boyce gave the hosts the lead after 41 minutes after a dangerous cross was lofted into the box from a long throw.
The centre half nodded home his second goal of the season as his side took a deserved lead.
Marine looked to respond quickly in the closing stages of the half.
James Butler won a header deep in the penalty area and found Adam Thomas who was unable to scramble the ball across the line as the Mariners went into the dressing room a goal behind.
Marine started the second half well but like the first period, they were unable to turn their chances to goals.
With chances wasted, the home side capitalised on Marine’s naivety and extended their lead through Whitehall.
A long pass was latched onto by the forward and he coolly placed the ball past Hutchinson into the bottom left hand corner.
The hosts then made it three after the 86th minute thanks to Fishburn.
The substitute nodded home from close range after a cross was whipped into the Marine penalty area.
An overall solid performance from the away team but missed chances in the final third cost them and Scunthorpe left with all three points at Glanford Park.
Marine now look to a double header at the MTA next week after defeat in North Lincolnshire..
