National League North side Marine AFC are delighted to announce the signing of highly-rated midfielder Ben Darby following his release from Curzon Ashton.
The midfielder, 22, boasts an impressive footballing CV, having begun his career as a scholar at FC Halifax Town. During his time with the Shaymen, he captained the youth side that went on to win the National League Youth Alliance Cup. He then moved to Stockport County, where he also captained their youth team before heading out to gain valuable senior experience.
The dynamic midfielder enjoyed successful spells with Alsager, Stockport Town, Glossop North End, and Mossley before stepping up to the National League North with Curzon Ashton in the summer of 2024. Over his two seasons with ‘the Nash’, Ben made over 70 appearances and scored five goals.
On the new signing, Marine Manager Bobby Grant said: “Ben Darby is a player that I’ve really enjoyed watching over the last couple of seasons, especially last year when he played against us—he was their best player by a mile. Box-to-box midfielder, energy, puts himself about, quality on the ball, adds goals to his game from midfield.
“He is someone who we really wanted to bring to the football club. So, the fact that he’s committed to us and we’ve committed to him, I am absolutely delighted with it. He’s a top, top player and we expect big things from Ben Darby. The standards that he sets himself and what he’s going to bring to this football club will only benefit us as a team and as a club. We’re delighted to get him in. He’ll definitely fit within the dressing room, so I can’t wait to start working with him.”
Ben joins up with his new teammates ahead of this weekend’s opening home friendly against Blackburn Rovers. Everyone at Marine would like to extend a warm welcome to Ben, and we look forward to seeing him in action at the Marine Travel Arena.
