Following a review of its football structure, Marine AFC announce that it has withdrawn the U23 team from the West Cheshire League with immediate effect.

The club has extended the Academy to include a 3rd year in partnership with Loughborough University, with long term progression of the club and player development in mind.

The revised football pathway will therefore represent a closer link between the club and the Academy, with Academy players identified to join up with the first team in pre-season.

CEO James Leary said:

“Following the progress made by the First team squad and our club ambitions over the last 4 years we have reviewed our structure.

As a result of our extended Academy, we will now have 3 years working closely with the full time set up from 16-19, to develop and nurture talent giving us the best chance of finding players who could play for the First team or at a higher level.

It has been a great journey over the last 4 years with our U23s moving from the West Cheshire 3rd to 1st Division and seeing a number of players make the First team squad.

I thank all management teams and players who have contributed to that progress and wish them all well in their future in football.”
