MARINE 1-2 WARRINGTON TOWN – MATCH REPORT

Tom Wardle Reports as Marine slip to defeat after late Yellows winner…

Marine weren’t able to find three points on Easter Monday as they conceded late on to lose 2-1 against Warrington Town this afternoon. Jordan Buckley gave The Yellows the lead before Joe Hardy levelled things up. Isaac Buckley-Ricketts converted in added time to claim maximum points for the visitors in front of over 1600 spectators.

Neil Young made four changes from Saturday’s 1-0 win at Marske United. Sean Smith, Kyle Hayde, Mark Howarth and Akiel Raffie all returned to the first 11.

Marine went toe to toe with Warrington Town in the opening twenty minutes.

The game’s first real chance came midway through the half when Bayleigh Passant pulled off an excellent diving save to push out Bohan Dixon’s strike for a corner. From the following set-piece, Declan Walker headed narrowly over.

After half an hour, Connor Woods’ cross found Buckley who was unmarked at the back post, but his header nested into the gloves of Passant.

The Mariners’ best opportunity of the half came when Raffie’s freekick came the way of Sol Solomon. The Jerseyman struck the ball towards goal which Tony Thompson tipped wide.

Less than 60 seconds after the restart, the Yellows broke the deadlock. Walker’s delivery was headed by Buckley; Passant got a hand to the effort but couldn’t prevent it from finding the net.

Warrington Town’s centre forward should’ve doubled his tally two minutes later. A similar situation from a cross came his way, but Buckley bundled the ball wide.

On 55 minutes, Marine equalised against the run of play. A collision in midfield broke through to Hardy who dispatched confidently past Thompson to make it two goals from two games. After an initial confusion with the offside flag being raised, the goal was given.

The hosts tried to build on their leveller and came close to doing so through Solomon. He went for goal from a freekick and curled the ball onto the roof of the net.

Josh Amis squandered an opportunity to restore the away side’s advantage with ten minutes to go. He pounced on a mistake by Howarth but failed to hit the target from close range.

Warrington Town found the winner in stoppage time. Dixon shrugged off Will Johnson and pulled the ball back into a dangerous area where substitute Buckley-Ricketts came onto it and fired the ball through the multiple bodies to take a well-fought point away from Marine.

Marine will travel for the final time in the league this season on Saturday, where Hyde United await for a 3pm kick off.
