MARINE 4-0 PILKINGTON – MATCH REPORT

Tom Wardle Reports as Marine Ease Past Pilkington in Liverpool Senior Cup

Marine advance into the quarter finals of the Liverpool Senior Cup after defeating Pilkington 4-0 last night. Andy Scarisbrick, Sol Solomon, Mo Touray and Hayden Campbell were all on target in the second half to make it a comfortable victory at the Marine Travel Arena, against a Pilks side who sit at the top of the North West Counties First Division North.

The Mariners made a number of changes in the attacking department, including a first start of the season for Touray following his excellent winner against Scarborough Athletic at the weekend. Callum Harris, Campbell and Scarisbrick were also introduced into the starting 11.

The hosts dominated possession from start to finish and controlled the play at their own pace.

Solomon was inches away from opening the scoring inside 20 minutes, when Campbell’s cross from the right was slightly too far ahead of his lunging boot.

Lucas Weir played in a less familiar left back role, but he didn’t let that prevent his desire to go forward. He collected the ball outside of the box and slashed an effort that Jake Hilton had to firmly palm away.

Hilton kept his side level with a magnificent double save minutes after. An initial strike by Solomon was parried until the ball was recycled to Scarisbrick who also couldn’t find the back of the net.

Marine eventually made their dominance count on the hour mark. Scarisbrick had grown into the game and found himself in the right place at the right time to drill a shot inside the box past Hilton.

Solomon doubled the lead three minutes later. Scarisbrick was the provider this time as he picked out Solomon with a fantastic deep cross which the Jerseyman calmly volleyed in to score his fifth for the club.

Captain for the tie, Luke Clark, would have had his heart in his mouth when his under hit back pass was pounced on by Callum Laird. Fortunately, Bayleigh Passant was alert to the danger and blocked the forward’s strike.

Touray netted his second in as many games in the 87th minute. He and Campbell had linked up well throughout the evening and finally made their chemistry count, as the latter’s pull back was taken by Touray, who cheekily back-heeled the ball past the helpless Hilton.

Campbell scored the pick of the bunch a minute before the end of normal time. He cut inside and whipped a shot that fired into the top corner off the far post, taking his tally to 11 in all competitions.

Marine return to league action on Saturday when they welcome Hyde United to the MTA for a 3pm kick off.
