MARSKE UNITED v MARINE – MATCH REPORT

Marske United 0 Marine 1 Saturday 8th April 2023

Dave McMillan reports as Hardy prevents fine mess for Mariners…

Marine kept their play off hopes alive on Saturday as they recorded a narrow 1-0 win at Marske United.

Clear chances were at a premium at both ends, as the teams struggled to maintain any fluid football on a tricky end of season surface.

Ben Hodkinson was a threat for the Mariners in the first half, getting behind the home defence on several occasions with Joe Hardy stretching to reach a teasing cross to the far post.

Hodkinson had appeals for a penalty waved away after a strong challenge, with Bayleigh Passant in the Marine goal also having to palm a header over the bar from the only on target first half effort from either side.

Marine started the second half strongly and took the lead just three minutes in, Charlie Doyle retrieving a loose ball on the right of the area to cross, with Hardy on hand to turn the ball home from close range.

The visitors had other chances on the counter with Sol Solomon putting the best of those over the top, but Marske pressed hard in the closing stages without unduly troubling Passant, as the Mariners claimed all three points.
