CLUB CAPTAIN ANTHONY MILEY TO LEAVE MARINE

Marine AFC confirm that defender Anthony Miley is to leave the club.

Anthony, 30, made his debut in August 2019 and went on to make 62 appearances, scoring 6 times, including the memorable goal at Colchester United as Marine went on to record their first ever away win over a Football League club.

Following discussions between Anthony and Neil Young, and ultimately what is best for Anthony, it has been decided that he will leave the club to get regular game time in pre-season, so he can be ready for the new campaign.

Anthony has been out of the game since breaking his leg at Workington 20 months ago, and after a couple of early setbacks, has worked really hard on his rehabilitation to get himself in a good place to take part in pre-season training in July.

Neil Young said:

“Anthony has been here almost as long as me, and has probably been one of my most important signings for the club, and the club Captain.

It was devastating for everyone when he got his injury as he, alongside David Raven, were a tough duo to pass.

He was part of our amazing cup run, and even scored a shinner at Colchester Utd. The best way I can describe Anthony is as a gentleman, a winner, loyal and never lets you down. Even when he has been out injured, he has been around the place. We awarded him a new contract last season, hoping that at some stage, he could have played some part. But unfortunately, another injury late on in the season put paid to that.

Anthony understands at the moment, his game time would be limited at Marine after the time he has had out, but with a long run of games, he believes he will get back to the level he was before his injury; and I don’t doubt that.

He goes with our best wishes and will always be welcome at the MTA.”

Our thanks go to Anthony for his contribution to the club and we wish him well in his future career.
