Club saddened by passing of former player…
All at Marine AFC are deeply saddened by the recent passing of former player Gordon Iverson.
Gordon joined the club in 1961 and played a major part in the club’s success in the early 1960s.
David Wotherspoon’s book The Mighty Mariners said this about Gordon:
“A new player this season was Gordon Iverson, a skilful, old-fashioned inside forward, who was to become another Marine favourite for many years. That was despite being told by doctors in 1963 after a serious operation that he would never play football again. He proved them wrong by resuming the following season and even more wrong by the fact that he was still playing in charity games in 1994.”
The club extends its condolences to Gordon’s family and friends at this sad time.
Gordon’s funeral will take place on Thursday 27th June at 1.15pm, at All Saints Church, Forefield Lane, Crosby followed by Thornton Crematorium and returning to Marine.
