Marine AFC are delighted to announce the signing, on contract, of Academy striker Liam Paton.

Liam, 17, has netted 34 times in the last 2 seasons, spending last season gaining experience at North West Counties Pilkington helping them to win promotion.

In addition, midfielder Luke Crompton and defender Leighton Rimmer will join up with the First team squad when the team returns to training on 27th June.

Manager Neil Young said:

“This is the first step to working with the Academy to produce players for Marine over the coming years.

Liam has done really well in the Academy games and out at Pilkington on loan, so it’s important now we try firstly to assess the lads coming through and then get them playing regularly, if not immediately for ourselves, at a suitable club to ensure their development continues.

I know from speaking to Liam how excited he is to be at the club and is keen to get started in pre-season.”

Academy Head Coach Chris Stammers said:

“We have worked hard to put the foundations in place in the Academy for these young players to make the step up into senior and First team football.

This is a fantastic opportunity for all the lads to make an impression on Neil and cement a realistic pathway into semi-pro football.

I am very pleased to see the progression of the three lads has been rewarded. Liam has worked hard and earned the rewards of a contract with the First team.

I believe this is a fantastic opportunity for any year 11 footballers looking to get on the semi-pro football pathway who wish to be involved in full-time football and education.”
